The Bay Dementia Hub in Lancaster has launched a year long series of talks aimed at providing practical information and support for anyone living with dementia, their family, friends or carers, or anyone worried abut their memory in the Lancaster and Morecambe Bay area.
The programme of monthly talks will feature guest speakers from a number of local organisations and will cover topics ranging from safety measures in the home to financial and legal matters, choosing a care home and the availability of local support networks.
The talk on March 3rd will be given by Steve Turner from Lancashire Fire and Rescue and will focus on maintaining safety in the home. In April the theme will be 'Advance Care Planning' with Gary Rycroft from Jones A Jones & Co Solicitors offering advice on how to negotiate the legal system. The Bay Dementia Hub is a joint initiative between St John’s Hospice, UHMBT and Lancaster University. Started in September 2016 to tackle the isolation so many people with memory problems face, the hub aims to provide a 'one-stop shop' where anyone with an interest in dementia can access guidance and support.
The programme of talks will form part of the monthly meetings, where advice on early intervention strategies and practical support is available from a range of health, social care, legal and financial services and other families living with dementia.
Dianne Smith, Matron for Dementia at UHMBT, and one of the hub's co-founders explains:
“We have a fantastic range of speakers joining us at the hub over the coming year. We continue to get great support from our partners and from people attending the hub.”
