People living with dementia and their carers, friends and family are invited to take part in special dance sessions in York.

Run by the dance department at York St John University, the sessions are suitable for all ages and levels of experience and will include a mixture of dance and music genres.

Elaine Harvey, senior lecturer in dance, is running the sessions.

I’ve a passionate belief in what dance can do, and these sessions will emphasise creativity and playfulness as research suggests that’s increasingly valuable.

Dance and dementia is a growing area of research. There’s a link between creativity, playfulness and wellbeing.

There’s been something of a shift in the culture of care for people with dementia with a focus being placed on what is possible rather than what is not.

The sessions will be held every Tuesday 10.30 -11.30am from October 27th to December 15th 2015 at The Dance Studio,       York St John University, Lord Mayor's Walk, York.
