Chirk Leisure and Activity Centre is to start hosting dementia friendly swimming sessions to help people living with dementia in the Wrexham area remain active, fit and sociable.
The sessions will take place on Mondays between 2:45pm and 3:30pm, will start from September 25th. Accessible facilities will be available along with assistance from specially trained staff.
The initiative is the result of successful collaboration between Wrexham Dementia Friends, the Alzheimer’s Society, and Freedom Leisure.
Jo Lane from the Alzheimer’s society and the local management team from Freedom Leisure have worked together to develop a pilot scheme which, if successful, will be rolled out across all of Freedoms sites in Wrexham and beyond.
Monday’s launch will be followed by tea and cakes at Craig Close Lounge in Chapel Lane and supported by Clwyd South MP Susan Elan Jones.
Sessions are £2 per person and carers swim for free! Spaces are limited so booking is advised.
