The Tyneside Memory Walk is to change location this year due to its incredible success.

Memory Walk is the Alzheimer's Society flagship fundraising event involving 31 venues around the UK on dates throughout September and October.

For the past 3 years, the Memory Walk in the North-East has been held very successfully along the Newcastle/Gateshead Quayside, but thanks to the growing numbers of participants taking part a bigger venue is now needed and the location has been changed this year to Bent's Park in South Shields.

Last year's event, opened by popular TV presenter and Agony Aunt, Denise Robertson, was a huge success.

This year, event organisers are hoping to attract more than 4,000 people to the walk on Saturday 8th October and have set a fundraising target of £250,000.

Walkers will be able to choose from 2 routes, one 2km long and the other 8km. The shorter route will take participants along South Shields Promenade and around Bents Park, while the long route will cover a series of stunning coastal paths which twist and turn to give access to bays, caves, coves all the way to Marsden Bay and beyond.

Bents Park is a fantastic location that will allow the event the space to grow.

Last year's event was very memorable, not least of all because of the heart-warming reception Denise Robertson got when she officially launched it.

She was a tremendous supporter of Memory Walk and it will be a fitting tribute to her if it continued to go from strength to strength in its new home."
